Is donating plasma for cash worth it?
I am on a mission to find or create several sources of alternative income. One of my first attempts at generating alternative income was donating plasma for cash. I have wanted to donate plasma for cash for quite some time but honestly, I was a little scared. Ok, I was really scared, shakin’ in my boots! See, I have really small, practically invisible veins. But, I wanted to try it and I really wanted the extra cash. Plus, it provides vital fluids that could potentially save another life, which is a beautiful thing in and of itself. (My life was actually saved by someone’s kind donation of plasma.)
This picture was taken two weeks after I gave blood! I realized that when the lady told me that my veins were too small to donate plasma, she was really doing me a huge favor. The needles they use for plasma are almost three times as large as needles used for blood donations.
My boyfriend did get to donate. Because of his weight, he can donate the maximum amount. I would have earned less. He earned:
- $35 in 3 1/2 hours for the initial visit.
- $50 in two hours on his second visit.
He will earn:
- $30 every time from now. (People can ususally donate plasma up to twice a week.)
Donating plasma might be a good way for you to make some extra cash from time to time if:
- Your veins are visible or at least big enough to feel.
- You weigh enough (at least 110 lbs.) this time more is better.
- You aren’t afraid of (large) needles or blood.

I use to donate plasma in college for extra money. I have good veins so it wasn't too bad. The worst part is the saline that runs through your viens after the plasma donation. Ugh! It feels soooo weird and makes you freezing cold. I had set a goal of saving $15000 for a new car by year's end (I need $7800.. well $8800 now-my transmission went out this week!) so your post about donating plasma has renewed my interest!
