I love the Cherry Limeades from Sonic. Even though I only buy them during Happy Hour (everyday from 2-4pm), I still pay just under a buck for a large drink. What if I could make it cheaper myself? Turns out, I can…and so can you. Here is the recipe. Don’t forget the cherries!
That got me thinking. I wonder how many other things can I make myself and save money? Actually, there is plenty! The good ole world wide web offers a wide array of “copycat” recipes. You would be amazed to see how popular recipes are available and how simple they are to prepare.
A favorite of mine is the original Orange Julius drink. It is actually quite simple to make at home. Click here to get the recipe.
Chinese food is one of my weaknesses. The meals are generally pretty cheap but can add up quickly, especially if you get appetizers in addition to your meals. I am totally addicted to Crab Cheese Rangoons. Whenever I order Chinese, I have to get them or I feel like I am missing out. Well, my dear friend Rebecca taught me how to make them at home for a fraction of the price. Now, I’m hooked. I spent $6.48 and got 48 wonton wrappers and enough filling to make over twenty rangoons. Click here for the recipe I used.
I don’t know about you but I love Pop Tarts. I used to eat them for breakfast all the time in college. I never knew you could make them yourself. But, they are wonderful. Try’em! Click here for the recipe.
Try your own Iced Coffee: It’s super easy and delicious, especially in the summer. Brew coffee, pour over ice, and add half & half or milk to taste. Stir, sip, and enjoy! Try these variations: For a Mexican flare add chocolate and tiny pinch of chili or cayenne powder. Or try an Italian version by adding dash of almond syrup or extract.
Another favorite of mine is my version of Red Lobster’s Cheddar Bay biscuits. It is a cinch to make them at home and they are super easy to transport to a potluck or BBQ. Click here for this awesome recipe.
See how easy it is to make your favorite restaurant dishes at home for less? More recipes to come! If you have any copycat recipes that you love, please share.
Bon Apetit!

A tip from a friend on the iced coffee. Whenever she has coffee left in the bottom of a pot, she pours it into ice trays and freezes them.
That way, when she makes her iced coffee, she uses the coffee cubes so the ice doesn't water down the flavor!
Genius.
Awesome post! I myself, make Chinese a lot, because it is so expensive, for the battered chicken fingers, what works best is to use pancake batter! Tastes like we ordered it directly from the chinese place we go to!
That is a great idea about the coffee ice cubes. My microwave is on the fritz right now so I can't warm up my coffee and I end up wasting it. Now, I'll freeze it. Thanks Melissa Beth!
Brandy, thanks! I'll have to try the battered chicken fingers. They sound yummy!
